The Giuseppe Verdi Lodge 2163 Italian Language Scholarship Award

The Order of the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America® (OSDIA) and the Sons of Italy Foundation® (SIF) has awarded nearly $61 million in scholarships to date. 

The Order of the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America® , Giuseppe Verdi Lodge 2163, is honored to offer two (2) $250 scholarships, The Giuseppe Verdi Lodge 2163 Italian Language Scholarship Award, to  high school seniors enrolled in a four year undergraduate program at an accredited academic institution for the Fall 2019 term.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens of Italian descent (at least one Italian or Italian-American parent/grandparent). 

Eligibility Requirements:

– Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are students of Syosset Central School District

– Students must have 3 years of Italian language study

– Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must include their recent transcript

– Applicants must include a brief resume which includes their extra curriculum activities

– Application includes a 500 word, double spaced essay answering the following question, “ In your opinion, what do you feel can be done to preserve the Italian culture in America”

The deadline for these scholarships is no later than November 30, 2018.  All materials must be  submitted online to OSIAEvents@gmail.com
No exceptions will be made. The Giuseppe Verdi Lodge 2163 takes no  responsibility  for  incomplete  or late applications.

It is recommended that the Italian language chairperson review each application prior to submission. Final selection will be made by the Giuseppe Verdi Lodge 2163 Scholarship Committee. The Principal and the Italian Language Chairperson of the Syosset High School will be notified of the recipient names by February 1, 2019. The award will be presented to the two students at the Syosset High School’s Annual Award night. 

In addition to the monetary award, the scholarship entitles the winners to a one-year membership, must be 18 years of age or older at time of membership, to the Order of the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America®, Giuseppe Verdi Lodge 2163.  Meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Center.
